This condition may be hard to pronounce, but it’s an extremely common symptom that affects many of my patients. Sciatica is merely a fancy word to describe any type of leg pain. We use our legs for almost everything in our lives: walking, exercising, standing up, sitting down, driving, cooking, and more. If you’ve ever been stuck in bed because it’s too painful to walk, then you know how difficult it is to go about daily life with leg pain. While this pain can be mild to severe, you shouldn’t have to be in pain at all. That’s where quality chiropractic care at Scherping Chiropractic comes in.
Even though the legs are not directly connected to the spine (one’s in the lower body while the other is in the upper body), the spine has a massive impact in how the legs function. When a vertebra in the lower back subluxates, becomes misaligned from the rest of the spine, due to daily activities such as working or exercising, it pinches the surrounding nerves. If you’re experiencing sciatica-type pain, then this means that a lower back vertebra has subluxated and is putting pressure on the nerves connected to your leg causing numbness, tingling, or burning pain.
Think of you nerves like a highway. When a car accident happens, traffic has to slow down and sometimes stop altogether in order to move around the obstruction. A subluxated vertebrae works much the same way as these signals can’t travel through the nerves properly and their signals get short-circuited. The nerves connected to your legs get squished and so your legs can no longer function properly.
Sciatica can happen to anyone. No matter your age, sciatica pain is very real. Luckily, it’s also very treatable. This is where chiropractic care comes in. Chiropractic care is very effective for this condition as this wholistic-type care specializes in spine health to increase the health of the whole body. By using a chiropractic adjustment, I gently and safely move the misaligned vertebrae back into its proper place, releasing the pinched nerves and releasing the pain right along with them.
Along with receiving regular chiropractic adjustments, I also highly recommend stretching your legs regularly and performing lower back exercises. This will help prevent your lower back vertebra from subluxating again, and it increase the healing time as your body returns back to its normal functions. My job at Scherping Chiropractic is to merely comes alongside your body to help it do what it does best: keeping you healthy and enjoying life.
